Thanks so much for chatting with us Lexi. Tell me about SOURPATCH. I’m a little obsessed. It’s such a fun single!
Thank you so much! That was my goal for this song, to create something that was a lot of fun. I purposely wrote playful, lighthearted lyrics and worked with my producers to give SOURPATCH a chill vibe because I released it at the beginning of summer. The song is about the different sides of a person. I mention a few sort of rebellious things like breaking a heart just to know what it feels like and stealing someone’s credit card. Of course I’ve never actually stolen someone’s credit card, but the point that I wanted to get across with this song is that you don’t always have to be that perfect person and live your life the way others expect you to. It’s okay to let go of your innocence as you grow up and do things that some people might not consider to be the right thing.
What sets you apart from other Pop Stars?
I respect the music that all other artists make and the work that goes into it, but with social media being so prominent these days, I’ve seen some “pop stars” focus on the visual aspect more than their music. Of course marketing is very important and I’m always excited to get glammed up for my photo shoots when I have a new song coming out, but that all comes second for me. Making good music comes first. I want people to love me as an artist because of my talent, my music and my personality, not because of my appearance. If the music lacks, the photo shoots, the cover arts and the social media layouts mean nothing. I like to keep it as wholesome as possible.
Are you finding this socially distanced time to be a productive one for you and your music? How are you staying busy?
I definitely feel like I’ve been productive and accomplished a lot over these past few months. SOURPATCH was completed and released during quarantine, and before it was even out, I knew what my next single was going to be. I’ve been having FaceTime sessions multiple times a week with my producer, which I was kind of iffy about at first, but it’s actually been going so well and we’ve gotten so much work done. My next single is so close to being finished! I recently set up a studio in my home, so that’s where my music is going to be coming from for a little while until studios are open again. I’ve been having a lot of fun learning more about recording and producing since I’ve been home.
What song can you not stop listening to right now?
august by Taylor Swift. It’s such a mood, especially right now considering we’re in the month of August. I honestly can’t stop listening to her entire folklore album though. I’m obsessed with it!
What’s next for Lexi?
The next month is going to be completely dedicated to getting my next single ready to go. I’m so excited for it to be released and I’m looking forward to seeing how my audience will react when they hear it. It’s pretty different from the songs I’ve released previously. After that I’ll be working on finishing my EP, which I’m planning to release in 2021. It’s been years in the making, but the time just hasn’t been right for it until now. I can’t wait to share it with everyone!
I once sat a few rows in back of Taylor Swift at an award show.
I’ve auditioned for different reality TV talent competitions such as The Voice, American Idol and America’s Got Talent.
I’ve been to over 50 concerts! My first real concert experience was seeing Kelly Clarkson when I was 4.
Kind of embarrassing, but I won a middle school Halloween costume contest in 8th grade when I dressed as Snooki...people LOVED my costume for some insane reason haha!
I was in dance classes for 13 years before I decided to seriously pursue music.
